The former Mayor of Shrewsbury has handed over more than £560 to a town church following a charity concert held last month.

St Chad’s Campaign gets boost from former Shrewsbury Mayor

Councillor Tony Durnell, who ended his year in office earlier this month, presented a cheque for £586.60 to St Chads Campaign on Tuesday.

The money was raised following a charity concert which featured ‘over 100 voices and brass’ including Shrewsbury Brass Band, the Friday Singers, Shropshire Girls’ Choir and Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir.

Proceeds were split between the Mayor’s Charity Fund and the St Chads Campaign.

Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Tony Durnell said: “I was delighted to be able to help the St Chads Campaign. To me it’s an honour, not just because St Chads is our civic church but it’s also an iconic part of Shrewsbury’s landscape. Both Tricia and I will continue to support St Chads and we hope the people of Shrewsbury will do the same.”

David Tudor, development director at St Chad’s added: “We are extremely grateful to the Mayor for including St Chad’s in his fundraising efforts during his year.”
