Thieves have stolen hundreds of pounds in various foreign currencies following a burglary at a home in Telford.

Foreign currencies stolen during Telford burglary

The thieves forced their way into a property in Trench overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

A search was carried out of the address and various items were stolen including a television, ipad, laptop, keys, two vehicles from the drive and a wallet containing a large value of various foreign currencies.

Police believe offenders may try and exchange the foreign currency at one of the many foreign exchange bureaus available in the local area and are urging staff to be aware and to report any suspicious activity.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "Currency from Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, the Czech Republic, Malaysia, UAE, Indonesia, Japan, Hong Kong, the Phillipines, USA, and Israel was stolen, along with an amount of Euros.

"The total amount of currency stolen equate to around £1,600 in pound sterling.

"It is possible thieves will try and exchange the currency at one of the many foreign exchange bureaus available either in its entirety or in bits.

"We are appealing to staff working in foreign exchange bureaus - whether it be at a travel agents, a supermarket or a Post Office - to be aware and to report any suspicious activity to us.

"The burglary took place a couple of weeks ago now, so it could be that the thieves have already tried to exchange the currency. If this rings any bells with you then please contact us."

Anyone with information should call Telford Police on 101. Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
