An elderly couple returned home to find their house had been ransacked following a burglary in Dawley on Tuesday.

Elderly couple burgled in Telford

Sometime between 12.30pm and 9.30pm thieves approached the property from the rear by breaking the padlock on a gate that leads down the side and then making their way round to the back garden.

The thieves then forced open the door to the conservatory to gain access to the house on Park Road and once inside it carried out a thorough search.

A police spokesman said: "Several rooms in the property were completely ransacked by the thieves who eventually stole an 18 carat gold, 2 diamond twisted ring and more than £150 in cash from the master bedroom before making their escape.

"On returning home at 9.30pm, the elderly couple who live at the property were extremely upset by the scene they found and reported the burglary to the police immediately.

"Specialist officers attended the address right away and a detailed forensic search has been carried out in a search for possible evidence.

"Work at the property has been completed and investigating officers are now keen to speak to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious on Park Road on Tuesday, or anyone who believes they may know who carried out this burglary.

"Anyone who believes they may have information about this burglary is asked to contact officers in Telford as soon as possible on 101 or 0300 333 3000.

"Alternatively, anyone who believes they may have suspicions about who was responsible for this theft can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
