Police today appealed for witnesses after seven people were injured in a two-car collision on a country road in south Shropshire.

Police witness appeal after seven injured In Road Collision near Much Wenlock

The collision happened on the B4378 outside Westwood Farm at Bourton, near Much Wenlock just after 11.30am on Saturday.

One of the casualties, an 18-month-old girl, remains in a critical condition after being airlifted to the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

It involved a silver Ford Focus travelling towards Much Wenlock and a silver Ford S-Max being driven in the opposite direction towards Shipton.

The woman driver of the Focus was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with serious injuries. The little girl was in a baby seat in the back of the car.

Five people from the other vehicle were taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with various injuries.

They were the driver and his four passengers - two women and two teenage girls.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "This was obviously a serious collision and we are continuing to investigate the circumstances.

"We are urging anyone who saw what happened, or spotted either vehicle being driven leading up to the collision, to contact Shrewsbury police station by calling 101."

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service had to remove the roofs of both vehicles to help release the occupants.

The road was closed for several hours while the emergency services worked at the scene.
