Burglars have broken into an Oswestry home and stolen a car from the driveway while the occupants were out for just over an hour.

Jewellery and watches were also taken from the house in Southgate Close, which was broken into between 2.40pm and 3.50pm yesterday.

Entry was gained by forcing a door. Keys for a black Volkswagen Scirocco were taken from the kitchen and the car driven off.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "We are appealing for witnesses who may have spotted suspicious activity in the Southgate Close area yesterday afternoon.

"We are also appealing for information concerning the wherabouts of the Scirocco, which is quite a distinctive car. Its registration number is DB12MMB. The vehicle was parked securely on the drive at the time.

On Tuesday, a black BMW was stolen from the driveway of a home in Gatcombe Gardens, Oswestry. Thieves entered through an insecure window between about 4am and 5am.

Shortly afterwards, the same offenders are believed to have attempted to break into another house a short distance away in Cabin Lane but were disturbed by the homeowner and made off empty handed.

Any information which might assist the investigation should be forwarded to Oswestry police station on the 101 number. Details can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
