Man arrested over Shrewsbury schoolgirl sexual assault
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault on a 12-year-old Shrewsbury girl as she walked home from school.
His arrest follows several police appeals for information following an incident on May 28 on a supermarket car park in Whitchurch Road, Harlescott.
The girl was followed by a man on a bike who twice touched her inappropriately. She was distressed by the incident but not injured.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "A man aged 20 was arrested in Lancaster Road, Shrewsbury yesterday afternoon on suspicion of sexual assault. He was taken into custody for interview before being given police bail while enquiries continue."
