Work continues on £5m haematology centre
Work on the new £5 million cancer and haematology centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will continue this weekend.
During the work patients will be relocated to another part of the hospital so that they are not disturbed by the work. Around ten patients from Ward 21 will be moved ahead of the work.
During Easter the Trust opened the doors to its new £5 million cancer and haematology centre. This was the first part of a major programme to improve services for adult patients from across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.
The second phase of this work involves renovating the older part of the building to create a new reception entrance and refurbish the existing outpatient area.
The new centre is expected to open this Summer to allow our patients receive their treatment in a state-of-the-art, private and comfortable environment.
The £5 million cancer and haematology centre has been funded by charities – Lingen Davies taking the lead with an appeal that raised £3.2 million. They are now also fronting a campaign to raise a further £386,000 for vital equipment for the new centre.
A further crucial injection of cash came from the Shropshire Blood Trust Fund, which provided more than £1 million, while Head and Neck charities raised £550,000 and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital’s League of Friends came up with £300,000.
