A driver and his passenger had a lucky escape after a brick was dropped from a bridge onto the M54 in Telford yesterday.

Brick thrown from bridge smashes car window in Telford

Police are appealing for information following the incident which happened at around 4.30pm at junction 7 of the M54 at Cluddley.

The driver - a 53 year-old man - was travelling towards junction 7 heading west. As he travelled towards the bridge he noticed three white males and two bicycles on the top of the bridge. As he approached the bridge, a brick fell from above and hit the front passenger side of the vehicle, smashing the small triangular window.

Fortunately nobody was injured.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "Fortunately the driver and his front seat passenger were not injured. However they were extremely shaken.

"The driver was able to maintain control of his vehicle - a Citroen Picasso - and pull over quickly and safely.

"Police are investigating the matter and are appealing for any information which will help us to identify the offenders. The motorway would have been very busy at that time so we are hoping that another motorist will have information that will assist our enquiries.

"Throwing anything at passing vehicles is an extremely dangerous practice and could result in a serious road traffic collision and of course death.

"The driver on this occasion was extremely lucky he or his passenger was not injured and that he was able to keep control of his vehicle.

"If you have any information at all then please contact Police by calling 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
