Police in Shrewsbury have appealed for witnesses after a man was assaulted after being followed in his vehicle.

Driver assaulted after being followed in Shrewsbury

The victim had pulled over in Sultan Road at about 7.45pm on Friday 15 July 2012 to pick up a friend when a black Ford Fiesta that had followed him down the road also stopped.

A third car, possibly silver or blue in colour, also stopped and two men got out, who attacked the victim.

He was able to get back into his blue Ford Mondeo and lock the doors but one of the offenders smashed the driver's window and proceeded to punch the victim several times in the face.

The victim managed to drive away and call the police, who attended and carried out a search of the area but the offenders were not found.

He suffered a broken tooth and cuts and bruising to his face. Paramedics treated him at the scene before taking him to hospital for further treatment.

Police Constable Ben Stephens, who is investigating the incident, appealed for anyone who might have seen what happened or knows the identity of those involved to get in touch on 101.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta is described as white, in his early 20s and of stocky build. He had dark or black hair and was dressed in dark clothing. The two men from the second vehicle who were responsible for the actual assault are described as being in their 30s, also of stocky build, with one about 5ft 10in in height and having short, dark hair and the other slightly shorter with short, brown hair.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where a reward is sometimes offered.
