Telford & Wrekin Council celebrate Co-operative Fortnight
It’s more than a year since Telford & Wrekin Council declared its intention to become a Co-operative Council – and now the authority plans to celebrate Co-operative Fortnight, which runs from June 25-July 7.

The council is highlighting a a different co-operative initiative on each working day of the fortnight and explain how each of these is making a difference to people’s everyday lives.
Co-operative initiatives range from economic schemes such as Small Business Loans Fund and the opening of the Employability Centre to community projects such as the Ward Co-operative Fund and Dawley Town Hall.
How the council works with partner organisations will also be highlighted and a prime example of this is the ongoing scheme to regenerate Dawley Town Hall.
The fact that Brookside has been made a pilot ward for investment and the work that is taking place with the community on the estate to find the best way forward is another key co-operative scheme.
The council is also passionate about encouraging young people to make the most of education and employment training opportunities available and is pro-actively increasing the number of its apprentices and encourage more volunteers.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: “We have taken fantastic strides towards becoming a Co-operative Council during the past 14 months and we now have a lot to show for our efforts.
“It is only right that we should celebrate these achievements during Co-operative Fortnight, which gives us an opportunity to highlight some of the schemes and projects we have been working on.
“But they are by no means the whole picture and there is a tremendous amount of work going on behind the scenes to work closely with a huge variety of partners with the ultimate aim of improving the lives of everyone who lives in Telford and Wrekin.”
