A man has died following a fire in Telford during the early hours of this morning.

Man dies in Telford house fire

The fire broke out in the bedroom of a first-floor flat at Revlow Court on Brunel Road, Dawley at around 2.30am.

On arrival four Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property to search for a missing person with thermal imaging cameras and to fight the fire using two hosereel jets. After a very short time a male was located in the bedroom and rescued.

He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.

The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the bedroom of the property.

A Shropshire Fire & Rescue spokesperson said: "The fact that the property had working smoke alarms which alerted approximately twelve other residents to the fire undoubtedly prevented the situation from becoming far worse.

"We urge everyone to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their property and ensure they are tested regularly.

A joint police and fire investigation is currently underway into the cause of the fire although it is not being treated as suspicious.

Appliances from Telford, Tweedale and Wellington and an operations officer all attended the scene.
