Numbers swell at Wellington swimming pool

The number of people visiting Telford & Wrekin Council’s pool at the new Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre reached a record high last month.

The pool had been closed for major refurbishment since April 2011 and re-opened in March 2012 with brand new changing facilities.

The total number of admissions in May rose to over 12,000 compared to just over 8,000 for the same period in 2010.

Councillor Arnold England cabinet member for Leisure & Wellbeing, said: “This is a wonderful testament to the fantastic new facilities and the hard work and commitment from Telford and Wrekin’s staff.”

Telford & Wrekin Council has various offers and initiatives to support and encourage swimming throughout the borough including free swimming for residents under - 16’s who have a Flex Card.
