Jewellery stolen in Roddington Heath burglary

Thieves have stolen around £2000 worth of jewellery during a burglary in Rodington Heath.

Jewellery stolen in Roddington Heath burglary

The break-in happened at an address in the village sometime between 10am and 11.45am yesterday, while the occupants of the property were out.

The thieves are thought to have gained entry to the house by climbing up onto the conservatory and across the roof before climbing through the upstairs bathroom window.

Once inside the house they carried out a thorough search of the upstairs rooms before stealing a significant amount of jewellery and then making their escape through a window on the ground floor.

A police spokesman said:

"This appears to be quite a well planned break-in but the thieves have once again taken advantage of an insecure window to access the property.

"The total value of the items stolen is thought to be more than £2000 and the property taken includes two gold watches, two gold necklaces, a gold eternity ring with green stones and a gold eternity ring with emeralds on one side and diamonds on the other.

"However, probably the most distinctive item taken was a round fob watch with a long silver chain, a mother of pearl face and roman numeral numbers made of coloured stones. This watch is more than 100 years old.

"Anyone with information about this burglary, or where any of the stolen property can be found, is asked to contact police in Telford on 0300 333 3000, quoting reference number 377S 280612.

"In light of this break-in, we'd once again like to remind local residents that many burglaries are committed by thieves who enter the property through an unlocked door or an open window.

"This means the reality is that most burglaries are carried out by opportunistic thieves, rather than ‘professional' criminals, who are looking for the easiest way of getting into a house without being seen or disturbed.

"Opportunist thieves will not want to take unnecessary risks to carry out a burglary and therefore there are simple things that everyone can do to make life more difficult for them.

"For example, don't leave open or unlocked doors or accessible windows in unoccupied rooms even if you are only outside for a very short time.

"If you are in the garden and leave the front door open: it would only take a matter of seconds for an opportunist thief to walk in and steal items from your home. Remember to lock up properly before you go to bed and only leave windows open in the rooms where people are sleeping."
