A man has fled from a Telford bookmaker with cash after walking into the premises and threatening a staff member early this morning.

Man makes off with cash following robbery at Telford bookmakers

The offender, who was dressed with a makeshift mask covering his face, threatened a male member of staff with a small knife, at the premises in The Parade in Donnington shortly after 8.30am.

The member of staff was not physically harmed but left extremely shaken by the incident. It is believed nobody else was in the shop at the time.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "The suspect is believed to have walked into the shop from the direction of Baldwin Webb Avenue and is believed to have escaped along the same route.

"The incident happened at a very busy time with people going to work and to school. Members of the public would have seen the suspect and we are urging anyone that did to come forward and talk to us.

"The offender is described as a white male, around 5ft 7ins to 6ft tall, wearing a grey hooded top and dark coloured bottoms and possibly a beige coloured jacket. He was wearing a piece of T-shirt material over his face, which had holes for his eyes cut out. He was carrying a small knife and a long item in a black bag.

"If you saw him or have any information in relation to the robbery then please contact Police by calling 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
