New speed enforcement site to launch on A442 in Stirchley
A new 'core' speed enforcement site is being launched on the A442 in Stirchley this week by the Safer Roads Partnership.

The A442 currently has speed enforcement sites located in Cold Hatton and Crudgington. The new site in Stirchley aims to improve road safety across a wider stretch of the route and will enforce the 60mph speed limit in both directions of the road.
Anna Higgins, Communications Manager at the Safer Roads Partnership said “In the last three years* there have been 4 serious and 18 slight collisions on that stretch of the A442. The new enforcement site in Stirchley aims to reduce collisions and casualties and make the road safer for all those who use it. A significant proportion of drivers are currently travelling above 66mph so we hope that the new site will improve driver compliance with the 60mph limit.”
Councillor Hilda Rhodes, cabinet member for Transport and Community Protection, said: “We are committed to working with the Safer Roads Partnership to make the borough of Telford and Wrekin as safe a place as possible to travel in and the A442 is the main north to south route.
“We hope that the creation of a core speed enforcement site will help to reduce the amount of accidents that take place on the road and reduce speeds to a safe level.”
The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is part of West Mercia Police and works in partnership with nine partner agencies to reduce casualties and make the roads safer for all users in West Mercia through targeted communication, education and training together with enforcement.
‘Core’ speed enforcement sites exist where there is a history of road traffic collisions and casualties. Speed enforcement takes place at these sites with the aim of reducing casualties. The Safer Roads Partnership also carries out enforcement at ‘community concern’ sites where there is a high level of concern from the local community combined with a demonstrated speeding issue.
