Police investigating a firearm incident outside a Shrewsbury nightclub have issued a picture of a man they believe may be able to assist.

CCTV image released following Shrewsbury firearm incident

They think the man may have seen the incident taking place near C21 in Abbey Foregate during the early hours of Monday, June 25.

A man was reported as having pulled out a handgun, showing it to several people and threatening one person. No-one was hurt and no shots fired.

Detective Constable Chris Thomas, the investigating officer, said: "We are seeking witnesses to this incident and believe the man in the CCTV image may have witnessed what took place.

"We think he may be able to help the investigation and appeal to him to get in touch by contacting Shrewsbury CID on the 101 non-emergency number.

"I am also appealing for anyone who can identify him to also get in touch."

The man in the picture is described as white, about 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build with short dark hair. He was wearing a red or orange hooded jacket with a light coloured hoody underneath and blue jeans. It's thought he might possibly be Polish.

The incident happened between 3am and 4am on June 25. It's thought the man involved may also have been in C21 earlier and may have shown the gun to others. "Again, if anyone has any information about this, do contact the police," said DC Thomas.

He said the incident in Abbey Foregate was over in seconds and that the firearm involved might well have been an imitation gun. "We just don't know whether it was a real gun or not, but it was a worrying incident.

"We believe the man in the CCTV picture was present at the time and may have seen something which could be vital to our investigation," he added.

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111, for which a reward may be paid.
