Police in Telford have welcomed news that a drug dealer has received a significant custodial sentence earlier today.

Dirk Howell, aged 30, was sentenced to 3 years 8 months in prison at Shrewsbury Crown Court, while Kerrie Aulton, aged 32, who stood trial with Howell, was given an 18 month suspended jail term.

The pair, from Brookside in Telford, were both charged with possessing controlled drugs with intent to supply, including crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis.

Speaking outside the court, Detective Sergeant Richard Davies, of Telford Police, said:

"We hope the sentence handed out to Howell at the court today acts as a warning to those people involved in the supply of drugs in Telford.

"Police in Telford remain committed to tackling those concerned in the production and supply of illegal drugs. Anyone found involved in the possession or supply of illegal drugs should expect to be dealt with robustly by the police and the courts.

"Meanwhile, anyone who has concerns about drugs in the community they live in is asked to call West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000.

"Alternatively please remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself."
