Telford & Wrekin Council seek to recruit business leader
Telford & Wrekin Council is to recruit a business leader to help it find new ways of earning money and drive further efficiency of services.

The new role of Commercial Enterprise Manager, paying £55,000 a year, is being created to help find ways to reduce its dependency on Government grants.
The new post, will be charged with helping to make the Council even more efficient, customer focussed and finding significant new sources of income for the Council.
Telford & Wrekin Council has already been through a major restructuring programme - reducing its “back office” costs by 33 per cent since 2009, while it has cut its senior management by 55 per cent saving £2.1m a year, over the same period.
Since April 2010, the Council has made more than 450 staff redundant, with 95 per cent of these being voluntary redundancies while at least another 200 vacant posts have not been recruited to and cut.
The Council saved £20m last year, building on £25m saved over the previous five years.
Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “As a co-operative council, we are making all of our services more customer-focussed and involving the community we serve in shaping, delivering and monitoring their quality.
“We cannot sit back and just wait for Government to continue cutting our funding, as they have done at unprecedented levels and we expect them to continue to do.
“We must find new and innovative ways to generate savings and income so that we can maintain the services that people want and need.
“This post will key in helping us to achieve this and ultimately protect services as far as possible for those who need it most.”
The Council hopes to have its Commercial Enterprise Manager in place by the end of the year. The new new post will be advertised in the near future at www.telford.gov.uk/jobs.
