Police are hunting two masked men who robbed a Bridgnorth supermarket, escaping with several thousand pounds.

Thousands stolen in Bridgnorth supermarket robbery

They walked into the Co-op store in Lodge Lane just before 10pm last night, threatened staff and made off with takings.

The men who were only in the shop for a few minutes, threatened staff members but no weapon was seen.

Detectives investigating the incident today appealed for witnesses who may have seen the robbers near the shop either beforehand or leaving the premises after grabbing the money.

Detective Sergeant John Weaver said: "They were carrying a rucksack and although they fled the premises on foot, they may have had a vehicle parked up nearby.

"We are anxious to receive any information which might help us trace and identify these men. In particular, if you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Lodge Lane area last night, call us. Our contact number for Bridgnorth CID is 101."

He said a non-motorised scooter had been left under the shop front shutters which might be connected to those involved.

DS Weaver added: "These men might be local to Bridgnorth or from a neighbouring area such as the Black Country. They committed a serious crime and we are hoping the public can provide information to assist the investigation."

Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111, for which a reward may be paid.
