A man was taken to hospital with serious leg injuries after the car he was driving left the road in Telford yesterday evening.

Man impaled on fence following Telford crash

Emergency services were called to the scene immediately and on arrival they found a car - a black Jaguar X-Type - had left the road, gone through a post and rail fence and rolled into a field.

The vehicle was travelling along the B5063 between High Ercall and Shawbirch at around 8.20pm when the crash happened.

The driver, a man in his 20s was trapped in the car and had suffered a serious leg injury after being impaled on a wooden fence post.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

“Ambulance crews worked with firefighters to safely extricate him from the vehicle. He was given pain relief by a MERIT doctor at the scene in order to stabilise his condition. He was conveyed by Midlands Air Ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.

“He was the only casualty.”

Officers from the Force Operations Support Team (FOST) in Shrewsbury have launched an investigation into the collision and are keen to speak to anyone who may be able to help them establish why it occurred.

Anyone who witnessed this RTC, or who may have information about it, is asked to call West Mercia Police on 0300 333 3000, quoting reference number 219N 010812.
