Police are eager to trace two people who helped a man after he was assaulted in Telford during the weekend.

Man assaulted by gang in Telford

The assault took place in Deercote in Hollinswood some time between 9pm and 10.20pm on Friday.

The victim - a 33 year-old man - was carrying out some work in one of the garages when he was approached by a group of up to six men.

The men dragged the victim out of the garage and set upon him by punching and kicking him to the ground.

Following the assault the assailants left the area and the victim was helped by an unknown man and woman.

The victim got into a taxi and went to his nearest police station to report the matter. An ambulance was called and the victim was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the matter and are eager to trace witnesses to the assault and are especially keen to speak to the two individuals who helped the victim immediately after the attack.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "A man and woman came to the victim's aid following the assault and flagged down a taxi, which took him to the police station to report the matter. They also paid the fare.

"We are really keen to identify these individuals and would appeal for them to come forward and speak to us.

"We also want to speak to anyone from the area that heard or saw anything in relation to the matter on Friday night."

The victim suffered swelling and bruising to his face, head and body as a result of the assault. He received treatment at the Princess Royal Hospital for his injuries.

Anyone with information, and the individuals that helped the victim, are asked to contact Telford Police by calling 101.

Alternatively, information relating to the assault, can be passed on by calling Crimestoppers anonymously by using the number 0800 555111.
