Collision closes A49 at Preston Brockhurst
Two women have been airlifted from following a collision on the A49 at Preston Brockhurst north of Shrewsbury this morning.

Two cars were involved in the collision which left one vehicle overturned and the other in a precarious position partially overhanging a drop at the side of the road.
The collision occurred near Acton Reynald School shortly after 11.30am.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said:
“The driver of the overturned car, a woman in her 60s, had been pulled out from the vehicle by passers-by. Crews assessed the woman, who had suffered some shoulder and rib pain, and administered pain relief to her before immobilised her with a neck collar and spinal board. She was then airlifted to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
“The driver of the second car, a woman in her 70s, was trapped in the vehicle for over an hour whilst ambulance crews and the doctor worked as a team with the fire service to carefully extricate her from the wreckage.
“The woman, who had sustained serious multiple injuries, had to be anaesthetised by the doctor on scene to help stabilise her deteriorating condition. Once extricated, the woman was fully immobilised with a neck collar, spinal board and splints before being airlifted to University Hospital of North Staffordshire for further emergency treatment.
“Medics were pre alerted to the arrival of the woman who, at the time, was said to be in a critical condition.”
A land ambulance, a paramedic area support officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill and a second aircraft from Cosford, with a doctor on board, attended the scene. Fire Service personnel from Wem, Prees and Wellington also attended.
Last week a man died and four others were taken to hospital following a collision on the same stretch of road.
