Police have appealed for witnesses to a serious collision on the A49 near Preston Brockhurst, in which two women were injured, one seriously.

Police appeal for witnesses to A49 collision

The driver of a yellow Fiat Panda, a woman in her 50s, remains in intensive care after suffering multiple injuries in the crash, which happened at about 11.40am yesterday.

The other vehicle involved was a silver Mitsubishi Shogun 4x4, which had been travelling north towards Preston Brockhurst when the collision happened.

Its driver, a woman in her 60s, suffered check, neck and rib injuries but they are not thought to be live threatening at this time.

The Fiat was travelling in the opposite direction, towards Hadnall at the time of the crash. Its driver was airlifted to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be released by the fire service. The road was blocked and was closed by police until about 6.30pm, with diversions put in place via the A53.

Police Constable Simon Fearn, who is investigating the collision, appealed for anyone who saw the crash itself or either vehicle involved being driven immediately beforehand to contact police on 101.
