Sprinkler system saves Oswestry recycling centre
A sprinkler system has saved a waste recycling centre in Oswestry from extensive damage after a fire broke out yesterday.

Shortly after 6pm last night fire crews attended a fire at the household waste recycling centre in Mile End Industrial Estate Oswestry.
The fire involved a large quantity of household rubbish inside the building and was being suppressed by a sprinkler system when fire crews arrived.
It took fire fighters working with staff from the occupiers ‘Veolia’ three hours to extinguish the fire.
The premises were severely smoke logged.
Station Manager John Griffiths praised the company for installing a sprinkler system.
“Without the intervention of the sprinkler system there is no doubt that the fire would have been extremely severe and would have resulted in extensive damage to the building structure and the loss of a valuable public facility. In this case disruption to the business has been minimal with the facility remaining open to the public as normal.”
