Thieves break into Wellington home

Thieves have broken into a Telford home while the family slept upstairs.

Thieves break into Wellington home

The break-in happened at an address in Queen Street in Wellington some time between 10.30pm on Wednesday and 5.30am yesterday.

The thieves gained entry to the property and carried out a search of the downstairs kitchen area.

Two sets of keys, a mobile phone and a watch were stolen.

One of the sets of keys was to a Ford Transit van parked outside. It appears thieves used the stolen keys to open the vehicle and steal a satellite navigation system from the glove box.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "We are especially eager to hear from anyone who lives in the area and heard or saw anything suspicious overnight on Wednesday.

"Any information you have, no matter how insignificant you think it might be, could help us with our enquiries."

Information should be passed to Telford Police on 101 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555111.

The spokeswoman added: "It has not been ascertained how thieves gained entry to premises in Queen Street but investigations are continuing. However, we would like to take this opportunity to remind householders to ensure that all doors and downstairs windows are locked before they go to bed. Unfortunately opportunistic thieves do operate within our society and they will try their chances by checking doors and windows.

"Please be vigilant and do all you can to prevent your property or vehicle from becoming a target."
