A 20-year-old man from Shropshire has died at the V Festival taking place at Weston Park on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border this weekend.

Shropshire man dies at V Festival

The alarm was raised after security staff were called to a tent around 1am this morning where a man was reported to be unresponsive and not breathing.

The man was given first aid by security staff until an on-site doctor and paramedics reached the tent, but they were unable to revive him.

Police say they are treating the death as unexplained and would like to speak to anyone who may have information or seen him during Saturday evening.

The area where the body was found has been sealed off for forensic examination and police said that they are in the process of obtaining detailed statements from the man's friends.

Chief Inspector Carl Ratcliffe, who was in command of the police operation at the Staffordshire site overnight, said:

"We are very saddened by the tragic death of this young man and we are working to establish the full facts and build a picture of his actions in the few hours before his death."

A V Festival spokesman added:

"We are all very saddened by this tragic incident, and we want to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of this young man,"

"Our team worked throughout the night to support those affected at the festival site and we want to thank everyone for their co-operation."

The immediate family of the man, have been informed of the tragedy, but police will not release his name until other relatives have been informed and formal identification has taken place.

A coroner has been informed.
