Train damaged as object thrown from Shrewsbury bridge
British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information after an object was thrown from a bridge at a passing train in the Bayston Hill area of Shrewsbury.

The incident, which happened just after 5pm on Wednesday, 29 August, caused significant damage to the driver’s front cabin window.
BTP officers investigating the incident have issued a stark warning to people carrying out such acts, and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
Sergeant Karl Anderson, officer in charge at BTP Shrewsbury, said: “The 1315hrs Swansea to Shrewsbury Arriva Trains Wales service was travelling through Bayston Hill when an object was thrown from the Burgs Lane bridge.
“It is extremely fortunate the driver’s window remained intact, although badly damaged, otherwise the consequences could have been catastrophic.
“As the train approached Burgs Lane, the driver saw two youths on the bridge who waved at him and are believed to be the people involved. Officers immediately searched the area to trace them but to no avail.”
Sgt Anderson said the attack, which left the driver shaken but uninjured, could have had dire consequences.
“This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous as any object thrown at a train has the potential to become a lethal weapon due to the speeds involved,” he added.
“This was an incredibly irresponsible and dangerous act, and it was lucky no one was injured.
“I am appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Bayston Hill at the time of the incident and who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously to contact BTP as a matter of urgency.
“The individuals who did this were endangering railway passengers and staff, and it is vital that we trace those responsible before their actions result in serious harm."
An Arriva Trains Wales spokesperson said: “Behaviour such as this poses a real threat to the safety of our passengers and staff, and therefore we encourage members of the public to come forward with any information that will help the British Transport Police with their important investigation.”
