A mum has been left devastated after an ornament on her child's grave was smashed.

Mum left upset as Ornament on child’s grave is smashed in Ironbridge

The incident happened in the children's section at Castle Green Cemetery in Lincoln Hill in Ironbridge some time between 5pm on Sunday and 9am on Monday.

Damage was caused to a butterfly ornament, which was placed at the graveside of the child a few weeks ago. Other ornaments were also moved.

A Telford Police spokeswoman said: "A number of ornaments that were carefully positioned at the graveside have been scattered and a large pottery butterfly ornament has been partially smashed. No other damage was caused to other graves within the children's section.

"The child only died very recently, which left family members devastated. To have items at the child's grave moved and one damaged has only added to their distress.

"Police are investigating the matter and are eager to hear from anyone with information in relation to the matter."

Anyone with information should contact Telford Police on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
