Telford & Wrekin parishes benefit from new environmental partnership
Three parishes in Telford and Wrekin are benefiting from an innovative new partnership aimed at making local areas even cleaner and greener.

Great Dawley, Madeley and St George’s and Priorslee Parish Councils have joined forces with Telford & Wrekin Council to fund new environmental action teams.
Each parish’s team enhances the environmental work that Telford & Wrekin Council already does across the borough.
The team covers takes including litter picking and maintaining areas not covered by Telford and Wrekin, and also weeding, planting, leaf fall clearing, repairs to street furniture and cleaning alleyways and underpasses.
Money from the scheme may also be used to help fund new gateway signs, improving shrub and flower displays and improving surfacing.
The three parish councils are each contributing £25,000 with a further £12,500 a year coming from Telford & Wrekin Council to fund the teams, which include environmental maintenance operatives and up to two apprentices.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: “The new environmental action teams are a great example of how partners are coming together to give better local services to the public.
“We are encouraging all parish and town councils to look at this approach and are confident that more will follow the lead of the first three.
“At a time when we face unprecedented cuts in government funding, we have to find new ways of delivering the services that local people want and that will help make the borough cleaner and greener.
“The scheme also has the added advantage of creating new training opportunities for young people and will support our wider drive for apprenticeships across the borough.”
