Loveable Rogues and T’Pau’s Carol Decker will be launching The new Buttermarket venue following a £1.5 million refurbishment and creating 30 jobs.

Shrewsbury's £1.5 million revamped Buttermarket set for VIP launch

The entire building of one of Shropshire's biggest entertainment venues will be unveiled at a Grand VIP Launch this month, and is set to create a further 30 jobs to the county town.

The opening of all three floors of The Buttermarket, in Howard Street, Shrewsbury follows a massive £1.5million investment by local entrepreneur Martin Monahan, who purchased the building in January this year. Mr Monahan already owns and operates the award-winning venues C:21, Spirit, Velvet and The Peach Tree in Shrewsbury.

The VIP Launch of the Arena and Balcony levels, which takes place on Friday 21 September, will feature a live performance by The Loveable Rogues, who are set to release their debut single "Lovesick" in October. The band were signed to Simon Cowell's record label Syco following their performance on this year's Britain's Got Talent Finals.

Former Shrewsbury resident Carol Decker, the lead singer from 8's band T'Pau will also be back in Shrewsbury performing live on the night, including her No.1 hit "China In Your Hand".

Martin Monahan commented: "It has been a great achievement by the entire team to bring back to life one of Shropshire's biggest entertainment venues, especially after being derelict for quite a long time. And following the success of the opening of The Cellars in April, at least a further 30 full and part-time jobs will be created when all three floors open on 21 September.

He added, "The top main arena and balcony levels will also feature a state-of-the-art "Funktion One" sound system together with light and laser effects that will rival the biggest clubs in Europe, even those in Ibiza. It all needs to be seen to be believed.

Mr Monahan has also announced that the venue will be hosting a multitude of entertainment in the coming months including comedy nights, boxing matches, live music, fashion shows, and will also be able to cater for up to 250 guests for banqueting including Christmas Dinner and Disco in December.
