Telford & Wrekin Council seek sport volunteers to continue Olympic Legacy
Telford & Wrekin Council is looking for keen volunteers to become Sportmakers - helping to continue the Olympic legacy for local people to discover new sporting activities and opportunities.

A workshop for future Sportmakers will take place on Tuesday 18 September 2012 at Telford & Wrekin Council's Civic Offices at 6.30pm and will provide those who are interested in the programme an insight into the benefits around volunteering the opportunity to access free training and ask any burning questions.
The Sportmaker programme is aimed at encouraging those aged 16 and over to volunteer by encouraging more people to get involved in sports and physical activity.
Those who wish to attend should contact Clive Knight, Telford & Wrekin Council Club/Volunteer (Sports) Officer on 01952 382889, email clive.knight@telford.gov.uk , or visit www.sportmakers.co.uk and register their details to book on to the free workshop.
In Telford and Wrekin alone, there are several representatives who have taken part in the Olympics and Paralympics Games including Gemma Howell, Kelly Edwards Nick Woodbridge Mickey Bushell and Danielle Brown.
Sports Scholar Aiden Reynolds, Javelin thrower, has also recently been selected by Team GB from Telford Athletics Club. Aiden is one of just seven youngsters who was selected because of their potential in their chosen sport, to light the Olympic cauldron at the Opening Ceremony.
Councillor Arnold England, cabinet member for Leisure and Wellbeing, said: "Without volunteers working at a local level, young people like Aiden might not have been given these amazing, life changing experiences!
Becoming a Sportmaker could mean organising sport for yourself, friends, colleagues, neighbours or for local sport clubs or organisations.
Those people who choose to become a Sportmaker have the opportunity to learn new skills while being a significant part of the Olympic legacy across the country."
