Three arrested over suspected drug offences in Shrewsbury

A 20-year-old man from Wolverhampton was taken into custody after the car he was driving was stopped in Smithfield Road yesterday afternoon.

He was searched and more than 50 "wraps" of a substance believed to be heroin or cocaine discovered.

The man was arrested and taken to Shrewsbury police station on suspicion of possessing a Class A controlled drug with intent to supply and committing driving offences. He was later bailed pending further inquiries.

In an unrelated incident, officers stopped a car in London Road shortly after 3am today. The two occupants were found to have suspected drugs.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing small amounts of cocaine and cannabis and a 20-year-old on suspicion of possessing a small amount of cannabis.

Both remain in custody at Shrewsbury police station.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "We continue to receive a considerable amount of information from members of the public about suspected illegal drug activity which we always act upon.

"This is something we welcome and encourage. Anyone with information about those involved with drugs, or indeed, any form of criminal activity, can contact the police in confidence on 101. Alternatively, they can call the anonymous Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
