New bins will help save money and lead to less litter across Telford & Wrekin
Gleaming new bins are being installed across the borough as Telford & Wrekin Council’s Suggest A Bin scheme delivers tangible benefits to make for a cleaner environment.

The council encouraged members of the public to suggest locations where bins could be installed in the hope that more bins would lead to less litter – the collection of which costs the council £1.8m a year.
Residents of Telford and Wrekin produced an impressive response with more than 300 locations suggested for new bins and this will ultimately lead to a total of 295 new bins put in across the borough.
Bins have been delivered to the council’s depot at Granville House in Donnington during the course of the past two weeks and work is already under way to install them – with the first appearing in the Woodside and Madeley area.
The £70,000 investment in improving the environment follows a major consultation during the summer months to establish where people wanted to see bins installed. Already nearly 50 bins have been installed during the course of the past week.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: “The very fact that we had a significant response from the public demonstrates that there was a clear need for more bins in strategic locations around the borough.
“If this encourages more people to put things in the bin rather than dropping litter then it will improve the environment in Telford and Wrekin as well as potentially saving the council a large amount of money.
“I would appeal to everyone to stop littering our streets and to use bins instead to dispose of their litter. People who throw litter risk fixed penalties and possibly court action and it is also extremely anti-social.
“I hope that by making it easier for people to throw their litter away responsibly by using one of the many bins around the borough that they will do exactly that.”
