Driver dies in hospital following Weston Heath collision
A man has died in hospital following a collision in Weston Heath on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old man was critically injured in the incident when the white Fiat Punto he was driving was involved in a collision with two other vehicles and a horse.
The man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham but died a day later on Wednesday, 19 September. He is not being named at this time but is believed to be from the Newport area.
The coroner has been informed of the man's death and an inquest will be opened in due course.
The collision took place at around 10.25am on King Street and officers investigating the incident are still appealing for witnesses.
PC Simon Barnes from Shrewsbury police station is leading the investigation. He said: "Following the death of this young man, it is now crucial that we establish exactly how the collision occurred not only for our investigation, but also for the man's family.
"Although some witnesses have already come forward, we are keen to hear from anyone else who may have seen what happened or any of the vehicles beforehand.
"Three vehicles - a white Fiat Punto, green Volkswagen Passat and a white Ford Transit van - were involved in the collision, which resulted in the Punto colliding with the horse.
"The collision took place just before the junction with Damson Lane, on the road between Lilyhurst and Weston Heath.
"The Punto and the Passat were going along King Street heading towards the A41, while the horse and Transit van were travelling in the opposite direction.
"This was a tragic collision in which a young man lost his life and a woman was badly injured. Our thoughts are with both families and we are fully supporting them through this difficult time.
"Any information, no matter how small it may appear, could be essential to the investigation and I would urge anyone who we have not yet spoken to, to get in touch."
