The Buttermarket in Shrewsbury is to re-open this evening following a £1.5 million refurbishment which has created 30 jobs.

VIP launch for Shrewsbury's £1.5 million revamped Buttermarket

The opening of all three floors of The Buttermarket, in Howard Street, Shrewsbury follows a massive £1.5million investment by local entrepreneur Martin Monahan, who purchased the building in January this year. Mr Monahan already owns and operates the award-winning venues C:21, Spirit, Velvet and The Peach Tree in Shrewsbury.

The VIP Launch of the Arena and Balcony levels, will feature a live performance by The Loveable Rogues, who are set to release their debut single "Lovesick" in October. The band were signed to Simon Cowell's record label Syco following their performance on this year's Britain's Got Talent Finals.

Martin Monahan commented: "It has been a great achievement by the entire team to bring back to life one of Shropshire's biggest entertainment venues, especially after being derelict for quite a long time. And following the success of the opening of The Cellars in April, at least a further 30 full and part-time jobs will be created when all three floors open on 21 September.

He added, "The top main arena and balcony levels will also feature a state-of-the-art "Funktion One" sound system together with light and laser effects that will rival the biggest clubs in Europe, even those in Ibiza. It all needs to be seen to be believed.

Mr Monahan has also announced that the venue will be hosting a multitude of entertainment in the coming months including comedy nights, boxing matches, live music, fashion shows, and will also be able to cater for up to 250 guests for banqueting including Christmas Dinner and Disco in December.
