The family of a man who was killed following a collision in Weston Heath have paid tribute to him, calling him a ‘devoted family man'.

Family pay tribute to man killed in Weston Heath collision

Armands Ozolins, aged 26, of Great Chatwell, near Newport was involved in a collision in King Street, Weston Heath at about 10.20am on Tuesday, 18 September. He received severe head and chest injuries and died in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham the following day.

Mr Ozolins was born in Stalba, Latvia on 6 June 1986. His family say: "He was a loving, caring, dedicated and devoted son, brother and uncle, a devoted family man.

"Armands always had a cheeky smile and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

"We miss him terribly and we will always remember not how long he lived, but how he lived his life.

"He will forever be a tragic and terrible loss to our family."

Officers investigating the collision are still appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. PC Simon Barnes said: "The collision took place just before the junction with Damson Lane, on the road between Lilyhurst and Weston Heath.

"Three vehicles - a white Fiat Punto, green Volkswagen Passat and a white Ford Transit van - were involved in the crash. This resulted in the Punto which Mr Ozolins was driving, colliding with a horse. The animal died at the scene.

"The Punto and the Passat were going along King Street heading towards the A41, while the horse and Transit van were travelling in the opposite direction.

"We have already spoken to several witnesses but are keen to trace as many people as possible to help us establish what caused the crash.

"I would particularly like to hear from anyone who might have witnessed the actual collision or who may have seen any of the vehicles involved being driven in the area immediately beforehand."

An inquest into Mr Ozolins' death has been opened and adjourned.

Anyone with information about this incident can contact PC Barnes on 0300 333 3000 quoting reference 28N 180912.
