Power tools and copper piping were stolen yesterday during a burglary at an industrial estate, in which two vans from the site were used to ram the gates.

Power tools and copper piping stolen from Leaton Industrial Estate

The incident happened at Leaton Industrial Estate, Bomere Heath between about 3.30am and 4am on Wednesday 26th September 2012.

Two units on the site were broken into and items taken, including the keys to a Ford Escort car-derived van and an LDV panel van.

Police say at this stage it is not known how the offenders initially gained access but it is believed they used the Ford to ram the locked gates to get out and the LDV van to initially transport the stolen goods along Huffley Lane.

The LDV was then dumped in a field and the tools and piping likely transferred to a third vehicle, in which they left the scene.

At least £4,000 worth of damage has been caused to the gates of the estate, with damage also caused to both vans.

Police Constable Emma Watson, who is investigating the incident, appealed for anyone who might have witnessed anything suspicious in the area during that night to get in touch on 101.

"I am keen to hear from anyone who might have seen activity on the estate during the early hours of that Wednesday," she said.

"Anyone who might have seen the offenders dumping the van in Huffley Lane and transferring the stolen items into their getaway vehicle or who might have been offered any items similar to those stolen for sale under dubious circumstances is also urged to get in touch."

CCTV from the industrial estate is being checked and house to house enquiries have been carried out in the surrounding area.

Information can also be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, if people know something but do not want to be identified.
