A local MP has hailed the new Shropshire Showcase Produce Market as a huge success after it welcomed vast numbers of traders and customers to the inaugural event last Saturday.

Shropshire produce market proves huge success

Shrewsbury and Atcham MP Daniel Kawczynski has worked closely with Stuart Jones of Asterley Events to develop the initiative, which was inspired by the popularity of the Shrewsbury Farmer’s Market. The aim of the new market is to endorse the best of Shropshire’s produce by enabling farmers and suppliers to showcase their wares to consumers and traders alike, and encourage them to ‘buy local’.

Daniel Kawczynski MP said: “I am absolutely delighted by the success of the market, and the turn out from traders and consumers alike was fantastic. Shropshire offers some of the best food and beverages in the country, and initiatives such as this enable local bars, hotels and restaurants to see what quality is available right on their doorstep.”

Stuart Jones added: “It was an extremely successful day and proved to be one of the most popular markets we have hosted, thanks to the support from the customers and traders. The next Shropshire Showcase Produce Market is due to take place in March next year, and we hope it will be just as successful.”

One visitor to the event was Saiful Chowdhury, Owner of the award-winning The Third Place Indian Restaurant, in Shrewsbury, who said: “I attended the market to see the produce on offer in the county, and was astounded by selection and quality of the goods. I have purchased some locally-produced spices to use in my own dishes, and it’s great to know they are fresh and haven’t travelled far to reach the plate.”
