In a far-reaching move to support Shropshire’s visitor economy, Shropshire Tourism is offering free membership to any business, individual, organisation or group interested or involved in any way with the visitor economy in the county.

Shropshire Tourism opens up membership to all

Simon McCloy, Chief Executive at Shropshire Tourism said, “This is a new level of membership for us, which broadens our scope to support all kinds of businesses in Shropshire. Our traditional valued members include for the most part accommodation providers and attractions, but we have long recognised that all types of businesses benefit from visitors to Shropshire.

Research shows that some of the main beneficiaries of visitor spend in Shropshire are retail and food and drink businesses. Shops receive just over £150 million pa and food and drink businesses benefit from £189 million pa of visitor spend. This new free membership does not affect the support we already provide our 500 plus full paying members, but it does mean that we can now be more inclusive. We want to do more to support these other businesses.”

Members will receive free listings on the most appropriate business websites operated by Shropshire Tourism, twice yearly e-newsletters with IT and marketing advice, discounts and special rates offered by third party organisations, invitations to any open forums, network days that Shropshire Tourism organise and access to a range of support services provided by Shropshire Tourism.

Simon McCloy said, “As well as promoting Shropshire as a visitor destination, Shropshire Tourism and our subsidiary company Marketing Shropshire also provide a full range of professional business, marketing and IT services to all types of businesses in Shropshire. As a not for profit company, any surplus we earn can only be used to promote Shropshire and therefore support our member businesses further.”

Further information and a simple membership application form can be downloaded from www.stmem.com, or contact Shropshire Tourism on 01743 261919 or email enquiries@shropshiretourism.co.uk
