Celebrity dentist to launch new science labs at Prestfelde School
A ‘celebrity dentist’ is going back to his roots to launch two new science laboratories at his former school in Shrewsbury.

James Russell, who is the dental advisor on Channel Four’s Embarrassing Bodies series, will officially open the facilities at Prestfelde School on October 12.
James (36) was a pupil at Prestflede up until the age of 13 and is now an award-winning dentist based in London.
The labs are part of a £200,000 investment programme at the London Road School, which has also seen classrooms totally refurbished. Mark Groome, headmaster at the school, which educates around 270 girls and boys aged from three to 13, said that he was pleased that Mr Russell was returning to perform the ceremony.
“He will also run a science workshop with some of our pupils which I am sure will be fascinating,” he said.
The two new laboratories are being named after teachers Philip Banks and Keith Bell who have a total of over 50 years’ experience in teaching science at the school.
“The new facilities are very impressive and have created an even more attractive and effective educational environment for our pupils and staff,” Mr Groome commented.
“The science labs offer first class equipment and the refurbished classrooms now boast new furniture, lighting, heating and flooring and additional smart boards - used to interact with the new mobile iPads which have been introduced as a learning aid this term.
“With improved heating, windows, lighting and insulation the refurbishment should also reduce our environmental impact,” Mr Groome added.
He stressed that Prestfelde was continuing to invest in its facilities at its 30 acre site and planned some further exciting developments to ensure the school built upon its success.
