A woman who died after her car left the road and collided with a tree on the Shrewsbury to Bishop's Castle A488 today, is thought to have collapsed at the wheel.

South Shropshire collision victim may have died from medical condition

Police say they are investigating the possibility she suffered an illness, such as a heart attack.

The initial call to West Midlands Ambulance Service was made just before 10.50am to reports of a woman collapsed in a car in the Hope Valley between Minsterley and The Gravels.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, ambulance staff immediately started carrying out advanced life support on the woman.

“She was taken on blue lights to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital by land ambulance with the doctor from the air ambulance on board.

“Sadly, despite best efforts, she was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.”

A post mortem is likely to be held to establish cause of death.

The vehicle was travelling along the A488 towards Minsterley when it was involved in the low speed collision with a tree at the side of the road. She was alone in the car and no other vehicle was involved.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact Shrewsbury police station on 101.

The Shropshire coroner, Mr John Ellery has been informed.
