Police in Telford are investigating after an attempted robbery on Birchdale Avenue in Wrockwardine Wood.

Police investigate attempted robbery in Wrockwardine Wood

At around 8.15pm last night, a 45-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter returned to their car - a BMW - after collecting a cheque from an address on the street.

Suddenly, an unknown man approached the driver's side of the vehicle and smashed the window. He shouted, ‘Give me the money', at the woman and then tried to grab the keys out of the ignition to cut out the engine.

The woman quickly managed to move her car forward and accelerate and the man again tried to grab the keys. However, the woman continued to accelerate and this forced the man to flee the scene.

When the man ran off he was in the company of a second man who had been nearby when this attempted robbery occurred.

A police spokesman said:

"The intended victims have been left very shaken by this incident but thankfully neither suffered any physical injuries as a result of it.

"The two unknown men involved in this incident are both described as being white and as wearing hooded tops. Both men had their faces covered apart from the area around their eyes.

"Having been forced to flee the scene the men made off into woodland near Birchdale Avenue and although police did carry out a search of this area they were not traced.

"Police officers investigating this incident are keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have information about it, or anyone who knows who the two men involved are.

"Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact police in Telford as soon as possible on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 244N 151012.

"Alternatively, please remember that Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd prefer."
