Police investigating a road collision near Craven Arms in which a cyclist died, today made a fresh appeal for witnesses.

Fresh appeal issued over fatal Craven Arms collision

They are still trying to establish the exact circumstances of the incident which resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man as he cycled along the B4368 Corvedale Road, about a mile out of Craven Arms at around 8.25am yesterday.

A number of vehicles are thought to have been involved following an initial impact with the cyclist, who has yet to be formally named.

Police are talking to the drivers of a red Kia Rio, a black Mercedes CLS 350, a blue Citroen C2 and a white VW Transporter van who were at or near the scene at the time.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: “At this stage, we are still trying to establish the exact circumstances leading up to this tragedy. A full investigation is being carried out and it is important for anyone who may have seen any part of this incident, to contact Shrewsbury or Ludlow police stations by calling 101.

“We are speaking to the drivers of several vehicles and it’s possible other vehicles may have been involved which have yet to be traced. I would appeal to anyone who has information which might help the police, to get in touch without delay.”

The cyclist was travelling from the Craven Arms direction towards Diddlebury. It’s believed there was an initial collision with a car travelling in the same direction.

A second man was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham with a broken leg. It’s thought he sustained the injury while tending the cyclist.

The road was closed until early afternoon while the emergency services worked at the scene.

A post mortem is being arranged and the Shropshire coroner Mr John Ellery will open an inquest in due course.
