Police in Telford are investigating after two youths tried to rob a school boy in an underpass on Brookside Avenue yesterday.

Youths attempt to rob school pupil in Telford

At around 12.15pm, as the 14-year-old boy made his way through the underpass towards Brookside listening to music through his headphones, he was approached by two unknown male youths walking in the opposite direction.

One of youths suddenly asked the victim for his phone and then tripped him up. The victim responded by striking the youth but he was then punched in the face by the second youth. This punch caused a graze to the right side of the victim’s face.

A police spokesman said:

“Although he had been punched the victim managed to make a run for it and get away from the two youths. He believes they then made off in the direction of Stirchley.

“Although shaken by this incident the victim – who managed to keep hold of his phone – has given officers a description of the two youths that approached him.

“The first one is described as being white, around 5ft 9inches tall, approximately 16-years-old, skinny and as wearing an orange baseball cap with a green peak, a light grey hooded top, grey tracksuit bottoms and black and blue trainers.

“The second youth is described as being white, around 5ft 10inches tall, aged between 17 and 19 and as wearing a red scarf with black dots on it and a black hooded top with ‘Carbrini’ on it.

“Anyone with information about this incident, or who thinks they may know who the two offenders are, is asked to contact police in Telford as soon as possible on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 277S 171012.

“Alternatively, please remember that Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you’d prefer.”
