Donnington based Royal Military Police unit returns from tour of Afghanistan
Leading Telford & Wrekin councillors will be out this afternoon to welcome home the borough based Royal Military Police unit on its return from its tour of Afghanistan.
The Mayor Cllr Kevin Guy and Council Leader Cllr Kuldip Sahota will be among those welcoming home 115 troops as they return to their base in Donnington.
The troops are Members of 174 Provost Company, 3rd Regiment Royal Military Police and will be met by their families before holding a reception.
The Council is also putting out welcome home banners along the route that the troops will take back to their barracks.
Mayor Cllr Guy said: “Telford has long and proud connections with the Armed Forces and as the only full-time frontline service unit still based in the borough we feel it’s very important that we recognise and thank these brave men and women for their service to their country and welcome them home after their tour in Afghanistan.
“We don’t know the precise time yet that they will return, but we will update everyone via our Twitter feed @TelfordWrekin when we know more details and I hope that there will be a good crowd to give them the welcome home they deserve.”
The returning personnel are from 174 Provost Company, 160 Provost Company (Aldershot), 116 Provost Company TA (Stafford/Manchester), 253 Provost Company TA (London/Southampton) and five RAF policemen and are based at Parsons Barracks.
