The body has yet to be formally identified but is believed to be that of Mrs Frieda Wolverson missing from her home in Frankwell since October 18,

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said today: "The body of an elderly woman was spotted by a canoeist in the river near Atcham on Saturday.

"Police officers attended while the body was recovered by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. At this stage, no formal identification has been carried out but we believe it is likely to be Mrs Wolverson."

A post mortem is due to be carried out and an inquest will be opened in due course. Police have said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the death.
