Repair work to start on broken sewer pipe in Shrewsbury
Work to repair a broken sewer pipe which caused a hole to open up in the middle of a busy Shrewsbury road is to get underway.
Investigations carried out today by Shropshire Council’s contractors Ringway, and by Severn Trent Water, confirmed that a broken nine-inch-wide sewer connection pipe was the cause of the hole that appeared in the road surface on The Mount yesterday.
Severn Trent will now carry out further investigations to establish the extent of the repair needed, and then carry out repairs to the pipe, and to the road surface.
Work is expected to last at least two days and temporary traffic signals will remain in place while this work is carried out.
Shropshire Council says it will work closely with Severn Trent to minimise any disruption to road users on this busy route into the town centre.
The damaged sewer pipe comes from a property high above the wall that runs along the side of the road, and connects into the main sewer. The damage to the pipe is approximately 1.5m below the surface.
