Telford set to become White Ribbon Town
Telford is poised to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to tackle domestic abuse by becoming a White Ribbon Town for 2013.

This will involve men - including those in high profile, public positions - wearing a symbolic white ribbon to demonstrate that domestic abuse is not acceptable and should not be tolerated.
The campaign aims to promote what existing support services are available to victims, to work directly with local communities to raise awareness of domestic abuse, reduce the number of incidents and therefore save lives.
Becoming a White Ribbon Town will enable Telford & Wrekin Council to build on its commitment to challenge and tackle domestic abuse and improve prospects for families.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet meeting on November 6 is being asked to approve the campaign to become a White Ribbon Town in 2013 and to hold a special event on November 25 to publicise the Council’s intentions.
Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “No-one is immune from domestic abuse and it affects thousands of people all over the country. We are determined to raise awareness of it as an issue and the profile will be helped by Telford becoming a White Ribbon Town.
“I would urge men to wear white ribbons – particularly those in positions of prominence and influence and those who can raise awareness to other men including probation officers and social workers.”
