Cyclist seriously injured in Wem collision

The cyclist, a 23-year-old man, received serious head, femur and pelvis injuries in the collision outside The Hollies on the B5476 just after 9pm on Saturday. He was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The driver of a red Volkswagen Polo failed to stop but reported to Wem police station about two hours later.

He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and driving over the prescribed alcohol limit.

The 20-year-old was given police bail while inquiries continue.
