Police in Telford are appealing for information following a burglary in which at least £1,000 in cash was taken.

Cash stolen during Telford house burglary

The incident occurred at an address close to Rock Road in The Rock on Wednesday.

Sometime between 9am and 10.45am thieves broke into the property by smashing a window in the patio doors and then reaching in to unlock them from the inside.

They carried out a thorough search of several rooms before stealing a significant amount of cash and making their escape.

This burglary comes just over a week after another burglary occurred in the same area.

In that burglary - which happened sometime between 8am and midday on Tuesday 30 October - several thousands pounds worth of jewellery and electrical items were taken as well as more than £500 in cash.

A police spokesman said:

"Police officers are investigating these burglaries as part of Citadel - the force's major burglary initiative - and additional resources are being used in the area in an attempt to catch the offenders.

"Although officers are keeping an open mind there is the distinct possibility the two burglaries are linked and we are now focusing our efforts on identifying likely offenders who we believe may be operating in that area.

"Our investigative work in continuing but in the meantime anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact officers in Telford on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident numbers 172S 071112 for the burglary yesterday, or 73N 301012 for the burglary at the end of October.

"Alternatively, please remember Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you'd rather leave information without getting directly involved yourself."
